Food, Wine and Dining
Included in our tariff is a four course meal of delicious food prepared in a European style, a mixture of Italian, French and Swiss. Over the years we have received many awards for our food and service with the outstanding achievement of winning the Montana Food and Wine Challenge when we received the prize for: Best Dining Experience: Best Food and Wine Match: Best Service: Best Overall Restaurant
To give you an idea of our food, below is the menu from that competition:
- Loin of lamb with cumin and marjoram crust on apple tart tatin and sauce soubise with verjuice - matched with Stoneleigh Vineyards Marlborough Riesling
- Local Manuka honey mousse with cinnamon parfait and almond tuile -
matched with Saints Noble Semillon
The four courses will be based on European/Mediterranean food and the menu will follow a classic French structure which at one time consisted of 13 courses of which one was Les Legumes or the vegetable course following the main meat course. We have changed that a little bit and serve a vegetable dish before the main meal. In that way seasonal vegetables will be a feature. We believe that the vegetables in many restaurants are poorly cooked and presented. They deserve better.
The menu therefore will consist of first course, vegetable course, main course and
dessert like in sample menu below:
- Fillet of fresh Hapuka on Carnaroli rice risotto, braised Florence fennel and oven roasted tomatoes
- Ravioli of Akaroa salmon and
mascarpone with cucumber, caper and chive salsa
- Fillet of beef on grilled polenta and sauce Marchand du Vin
- Belgium chocolate muffin with chocolate sorbet
Our approach to food is simplicity, flavour and no fuss. It is nicely presented without attitude.
We are sure that you will enjoy our food and service.
The wine we serve is mainly from New Zealand and Australia. We try to get vintages from lesser known vineyards from different regions and also try to stock a wide variety. You will certainly find something on our wine list that suits your taste. Wine and drinks are an extra cost.
Breakfast is either fully cooked or continental.
